MI Periodontics Journey
Your journey with MI Periodontics would start by arranging a full consultation on a day that is suitable for yourself and at one of the practices that is most convenient for you.
At the consultation we will have a thorough discussion and chat over any of your concerns, complaints, symptoms, and work through each individual point. MI periodontist will then explain gum disease and try to gain an insight as to why gum disease may be affecting you.
There will also be an intra-oral examination where we conduct a full assessment including a soft tissue screening assessment of the way your teeth come together and how any external factors may be affecting your disease. The next step will be a detailed measurements of your gums and any x-rays If they are required.
Once all the information has been collected, we will then discuss treatment options, prognosis, costs, and you will have the chance to raise any questions or concerns going forward. Our aim and focus id to retain and keep as many teeth as possible and improve and stabilise your oral health. However on the rare occasion that a tooth may have been so extensively affected we may have to discuss the removal of a tooth, replacement options will be discussed and can be completed by us, or in conjunction with your dentist.
Don’t worry if you can’t remember everything that was discussed, after the consultation you will get a personalised summary and have the chance to consider all your options, and if you have been referred to us by your dentist, they will also be sent a letter to keep them updated.
Should you decide to go ahead with the proposed treatment plan, we will initially book you in for the non-surgical approach. This involves a deep clean under the gum under local anaesthetic, this ensures you are comfortable during the procedure. We will go at your pace and make the experience as comfortable as possible. At the end of the deep clean we will go through the correct cleaning methods to maintain the health of your gums long term, we will show you how to correctly use interdental cleaning brushes and will have the support of this website where we will arrange a log in for you, this will provide you with your MI Oral health passport where a map of your mouth and the correct brushes for effective cleaning. It is very important the maintenance of your oral hygiene regime is kept up after the deep clean in order to keep your gum disease under control.
We will ensure that we follow you through throughout the healing phase you will receive a courtesy call the following day to see how you are and if we can do anything to help your recovery. This will be followed up by a review about 1 month later to assess how you are progressing and if there are any other improvements that can be made.
This takes you over to the reassessment your teeth and gums. In this appointment will take another set of measurements of the gums and these can be used to compare your pre-treatment measurements to your final measurements. The prognosis of the teeth will be reassessed again to see if any further treatment is needed or if replacement options need to be considered. Some sites if they have not improved with the non-surgical phase, may require further complex management, involving possible surgery or extractions. This will all be explained in detail and what the next phase of treatment is likely to be. This will be followed in letter form to update you and your dentist summarising the treatment outcome and plan moving forward.
We will ensure that this stability is maintainable through a reassessment 1 year after the treatment finishes. Our aim is to ensure we provide you with a healthy mouth that allows you to function and maintain your health.
We look forward to seeing you!
